Irbesartan controls high blood pressure, but it does not cure the condition. It may take up to 2 weeks before you feel the full benefit of irbesartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat edema (fluid retention; excess fluid retained in body tissues) caused by various medical problems, including heart, kidney, and liver disease, and to treat edema caused by the use of certain medications.
